What is Occupational Therapy?

Well, what is meaningful to you?

Kicking a ball into the goal

Sharing a meal with your family

Styling your hair

Making it to the end of the monkey bars

Going to the toilet by yourself

Writing a story in the classroom

Confidently completing an exam

Making a friend

Occupational therapy empowers people to participate in the activities they find meaningful . When working with families, occupations include anything and everything involved in self-care, rest, play and learning.

How do occupational therapists do this?

Your occupational therapist at Curious Beings will get to know your child, their goals, their capacities, their family, their community and their environment.

Together with the child and family an individual pathway will be formed to meet your child’s and family’s needs. OT’s do this by looking at the following:

  • Child & Family

supporting children and families to build new skills

  • Occupation

modifying tasks to enable children and families to be more successful.

  • Environment

enhancing the environment to better support a child and their family.

Capacities explored in OT include*:

*but not limited to

  • Fine & Gross Motor

  • Attention & focus

  • Planning & organisation

  • Sensory Processing

  • Regulation

  • Social Skills
